Plymouth Community Council on Aging (PCCA):
The Plymouth Community Council on Aging (PCCA) is a non-profit corporation,
organized to coordinate programs, public and private, which promote and
safeguard the independence and well-being of the citizens age 55 and over in the
greater Plymouth Community.
The PCCA works with many local agencies to insure that seniors receive
assistance, information and enjoyable social events. PCCA works with the City of
Plymouth, the Charter Township of Plymouth and the United Way to oversee the
Senior Transportation Program. This program allows seniors to reach medical
appointments outside of the Community.
The PCCA has a Board of Directors consisting of nine members elected from the
general PCCA membership, from which four members serve as officers. The PCCA
staff consists of a Program Coordinator / Newsletter Editor, who provides
service and information from an office located in the Plymouth City Hall (201 S.
Main Street). The coordinator serves as a liaison with the Friendship Station
and the Cultural Center in addition to coordinating monthly meeting or events.
Twelve issues of the Senior Sentinel Newsletter are edited and published by the
coordinator and distributed to the membership as well as to the Community. The
newsletter keeps Plymouth Seniors informed on programs, projects, classes and
trips.
The office hours for the PCCA Office are
10:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday through
Friday.

The Senior Alliance - Area Agency on Aging 1-C:
The Senior Alliance® (TSA) is a private non-profit agency that was established
in 1980, and designated by the Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging to
operate as the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for the 34 suburban communities in
Southern and Western Wayne County. In 1998, the Michigan Department of Community
Health authorized the agency to function as an Organized Health Care Delivery
System. This new designation allowed the agency to add services to low-income
disabled adults. Serving older persons, however, continues to be the main focus
of the agency.
The service network includes in-home and community services such as home care,
meals, information, advocacy, and support services. For more information about
specific services, go to the website
www.thesenioralliance.org.
The 34 communities served by TSA are jointly known as Planning and Service Area
(PSA) 1-C in Michigan. Currently there are 16 AAAs in Michigan and over 660
nationwide. Each AAA is responsible for administering a network of community and
in-home services for older persons within their assigned PSAs.
With 171,813 persons age 60 and over (2000 Census) residing in the service area,
TSA serves the second largest senior population in Michigan.
All persons age 60 and older who reside in the region are entitled to receive
services funded by the Older Americans Act and Older Michiganians Act from TSA,
regardless of their financial or social status. The agency, however, will give
preference to older persons who are considered to be in the greatest economic or
social need. Services provided through the Medicaid Waiver program are
restricted to persons who meet qualification requirements.
